Individual athletes in particular do not really fall into the definition of workers, so they are legally regarded as entrepreneurs. An arrangement that is not undisputed and for the athlete also brings some uncertainties.
But also the individual sportsman has to submit to the respective federation regulations, if he wants to take part in the national or international sport competitions. The possibility to participate in the development of regulations only indirectly is often limited. Nevertheless, both association law and state law provide means to tackle unwanted decisions.
